What do you get for trying to swim from Singapore to Malaysia?

Arrested. For trying to leave the country illegally that is. On Friday the 5th, “two men have been arrested by the Police Coast Guard (PCG) for attempting to leave Singapore illegally by swimming across the Straits of Johor to Malaysia”,  according to this article on Channel News Asia.

“The Coast Guard was informed by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) at 1.25am that two men were seen loitering suspiciously along the shore of Woodlands Waterfront, the Singapore Police Force said in a news release.

At 2.08am, officers successfully located and arrested two men aged 23 and 28 for the offence of attempting to leave Singapore at unauthorised place under the Immigration Act”

Doesn’t seem like a very smart thing to do. What do you guys think?  Was this an attempt to leave Singapore illegally or was it a simply case of a couple of guys just trying something daring? Leave your opinions below 🙂
